Junior rowing
We are here to help you learn the sport safely and to thoroughly enjoy it!

Where:
Club training sessions are held at the Boat House, on the banks of the River Tweed during our rowing season, which is mainly from March to October, when weather and tide conditions are suitable. During the winter months training sessions are still held, but indoors in the format of ergo and circuit training.

When:
Juniors – Monday evenings from 5:00 pm.
There are some Saturday and Sunday outings, this is dependent on tide and weather conditions.

Safety
Your safety is of the utmost importance to us. To ensure your safety, at our Monday night junior trainings:
-
a qualified and fully DBS-checked coach will be present
-
a manned safety-launch will usually be dispatched while juniors are out on the water
The club also has a well-being officer you can contact with any concerns.

We do ask that:
-
you should be in good health and be able to swim at least 50m.
-
you must be willing to attend a yearly capsize drill at a local indoor swimming pool.

What to wear
Everyone should bring an extra set of dry clothes and a towel.

The boats
The club has a range of boats available from single sculls to fours and quads. Fours are ideal for getting to grips with the basics of rowing, and quads provide a good introduction to sculling. If you have never rowed before, most people can pick up the basics of rowing after a couple of sessions. Once you have mastered the technique you could then have a try at double and single sculling.
